By Pakistan successfully launched its second communication satellite, PAKSAT MM1, on Thursday. This launch aims to significantly improve the country’s internet and communication infrastructure.
The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) announced the launch of this multi-mission communication satellite from China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Centre last week. This follows Pakistan’s historic launch of its first satellite earlier this month as part of China’s Chang’e-6 lunar mission from Hainan.
According to a statement from the state-run broadcaster Pakistan Television, the satellite is expected to provide superior internet services across Pakistan. It will also enhance television broadcasts, cellular phone connectivity, and broadband services, starting in August.
Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, who attended the launch, expressed optimism about the future of Pakistan’s space capabilities. He said, “The day is not far when we will launch our satellites on our own rockets from Pakistan’s Space Launch Centre. Congratulations, Pakistan.”
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also congratulated the nation, expressing his excitement about the satellite’s potential impact on internet connectivity across the country. He stated, “With its state-of-the-art communication technology, this satellite promises to revolutionize our digital landscape and provide the fastest internet facility throughout the country.”
He highlighted that this achievement marks a significant advancement in Pakistan’s space and communication capabilities. He emphasized that the satellite will not only improve the lives of citizens but also boost economic activities, e-commerce, and e-governance.
The Prime Minister acknowledged the strong collaboration between Pakistan and China, noting that the launch from Xichang Satellite Launch Centre is a testament to their partnership. He stated, “It is through such cooperative endeavors that we can propel our nation forward and harness the power of technology for the benefit of our people.”
PAKSAT MM1’s placement in a geostationary orbit 36,000 kilometers above Earth showcases Pakistan’s scientific and technological prowess. Prime Minister Shehbaz praised Suparco and all those involved in the mission, stating that the collective efforts and determination of the nation are the driving forces behind Pakistan’s progress.
He concluded with a hopeful message: “May the launch of PAKSAT MM1 be the harbinger of even greater successes in our quest for excellence in space and communication technology.”
